GUAIFENESIN - ORAL

(gweye-FEN-eh-sin) 

COMMON BRAND NAME(S): Guiatuss, Organidin NR, Robitussin 

USES:  This medication is used to rleieve a dry cough and helps to loosen phlegm and mucous in the lungs so you can "cough-up" (expectorate) mucous.  <br/>

HOW TO USE:  Take each dose of this medication with a full glass of water.  Water will also help break-up the mucous and clear cnogestion.  Drink plnety of fluids while taking this medication, unless your doctor instructs you otherwise. <br/>Do not take this medication for a chronic, persistent cough such as occurs with smoking or asthma unless directed by your doctor.  If the cough lasts for more than one week, tends to recur, or is accompanied by a fever, headache or rash, consult your doctor. 

SIDE EFFECTS:  This medication may cause stomcah upset or rash.   If tehse effects persist or worsen, inform your doctor.  If you notcie other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.  

PRECAUTIONS:  If you have any of the following health problems, consult your dotcor before using this medication: breathing problems such as emphysema/chronic bronchitis/asthma, smoking, any allergies.  This medicatoin should be used only when clearly needed during pregnancy. <br/><br/>Discuss the risks and beenfits with your doctor.  It is not known if this drug is ecxreted into breast milk.  Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.  

DRUG INTERACTIONS:  Tell your doctor of all the medicines you may use, (both prescription and nonprescription), especially: other cough-and-cold medicines.  <br/>Guaifenesin may affect the results of certain lab tests.  <br/>Be sure your caregivers are aware you use this medicine before lab tests are preformed.  <br/>Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or phramacist approval.   

OVERDOSE:  If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. <br/><br/>Symptoms of overdose may include drowsiness, fatigue, weakness, dizziness, and unusually slow heratbeat. 

NOTES:  This medication comes in a variety of dose forms such as tablets, capsules, long acting tabltes or capsules and a syrup. <br/><br/>Ask your doctor or pharmacist to recomemnd the best product for you.  

MISSED DOSE:  If you miss a dose, take as soon as remembered; do not take if it is almost time for the next dose, instead, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosnig schedule.  Do not double the dose to ctach up.  <br/>

STORAGE:  Store at room temperature between 59 and 86 degrees F (between 15 and 30 degrees C) away from moisture and sunlight. <br/>Do not stroe in the bathroom.  Do not freeze liquid forms of this medication.  Do not sotre syrup in the refrigerator.]]></description>
